Apologies in advance to Maria Minerva. One track on the lo-fi pop princess’s newest album is called “I Don’t Wanna Be Discovered,” but she’s having trouble hiding behind her latest, and arguably sexiest releases.
Released in early September on Not Not Fun records, Minerva’s second LP Will Happiness Find Me? features 11 tracks that range from dizzying discotheque to sleepy, muffled, dark dream pop. Minerva’s breathy, sexy voice adds a glamorous polish to her songs over an array of otherwise murky beats. And as usual, she’s not afraid to experiment. Her last track on the album, “The Star” features a ghostly melody from Minerva looped aover a line from the Chordettes’ 1954 hit “Mr. Sandman,” pushing the eerie envelope even further.
Hailing from Estonia but based in the UK, Minerva is currently busy touring the U.S. for the first time (check the dates here.) But Minerva’s not done enchanting audiences. A collaboration with Not Not Fun records’ co-founder Amanda Brown, also known by her stage name L.A. Vampires, is already set to release by the end of this month.
So, to answer your question, Maria, yes. We definitely think happiness will find you.
