Seri Rains Down On The Dance Floor
The Vocal diva breaks out in her own name
Name: Seri
Where She’s From: Vancouver, Canada
Genre: vocal trance
Most Similar: Nadia Ali, Eva Simons
Sounds Like: A night you’ll never forget
Seri loved to sing since she was very young, but fell in love with electronic dance music a little later when she discovered Vancouver’s club scene. Now living in New York City, the vocalist and songwriter lends her talents to the kinds of songs that inspired her to dance back then.
Though she started out working under the name Lala, cutting successful singles with the group ManiaCalm, Seri recently started using the name her grandfather called her toward the end of his life. It’s both a return to her roots and a new beginning, marked by “Love Rain Down,” her first release under the new name. The soaring trance single from German DJ/producer Markus Schulz which features the rising artist is like a huge coming out party for her and a bold way to announce the next phase in her career.
Nothing if not versatile, Seri has performed everywhere from NYC’s gay clubs to its Chinese New Year Parade and can sing in Cantonese and Hindi in addition to her native English. (Her parents were born in India and her grandmother is part Indian.) She is also just at ease with pop tunes and R&B as she is with her role as an EDM diva. Still, something about “Love Rain Down” hints that the Dance Republic might be her true home.
