Istanbul doesn’t come up on our radar nearly enough, which is why, when it does, it’s like my goddamn birthday. In the case of Surrender!, a 23-year-old Turkish producer who has earned the accolades of Digitalism and Aeroplane, it’s as if, for my birthday, I have hit gold. THAANKS !
Surrender!’s first single “Locate” hit HypeMachine charts and earned a nice remix from UK’s NAPT, one that is winning over the electro house-philes who are sick of the progressive stuff.
Get thee gone, anthem house! Surrender!’s sounds are derived from the Frenchy, Ed Bangery variety, with hints of Daft Punk and Justice robot antics, and some sexy slow a la Aphex Twin. His debut album Surrender! (which is a fucking awesome name by the way and it makes me want to speak in ye olde warrior terms!) came out this month, and it features a good evening’s worth of revving distortion and club beats. It also features, in a somewhat random turn, one of Iggy’s recent favorite US artists, Jhameel, who sings on Surrender!’s neon-infused track, “Hurry,” which you can check out on Beatport.
Venture forthe, soldiers! and check out a sample of the entire album below.
