Bang! Bang! Eche!
“We at Iggy have a healthy respect for the young kids who foster a healthy disrespect for their elders. Sure, punk is 33 years old now (haha punk, you’re old) and may no longer have the same connotations of social upheaval it once did, but punk’s power has always been its immediacy and urgency. Plus thanks to James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy from the DFA, punk has gotten dancier than ever and that’s fine by us. New Zealand’s Bang Bang Eche is a young, bratty, snotty, immature, and otherwise wonderful quartet of Kiwis who record anthemic amphetamine-ridden tight punk blasts of pop and and sweaty jumping-up-and-down.
With only two EPs and two music videos out, the group has already established itself as one of our favorite new acts of the last few years. And who knows, if they keep this up, they can one day join the hallowed ranks of other New Zealanders who have broken through to mainstream audiences (Natasha Bedingfield, Flight of the Conchords, OMC, Split Enz/Crowded House.)”
