Six-piece group Beast holds considerable weight and presence within the K-pop industry as Cube Entertainment’s front and center boy band. Coming a long way from their early nickname “recycled group” (members Doojoon, Hyunseung, Junhyung, Yoseob, Kikwang and Dongwoon drew attention even before their 2009 debut for having been trainees at other companies or failed debut efforts), Beast now stands as one of the most successful idol groups not only in Korea, but in Japan as well.
Though Beast tends to release music in popular dance-pop/R&B category, what sets them apart from the competition are their iconic choreography and their ability to carry contrasting concepts with ease. Since the guys tend to drop dark ‘n powerful tracks like “Soom” and then switch things up with light-hearted singles like “Beautiful” soon after, B2UTY’s (Beast’s official fanclub) are kept on their toes for every comeback.
As the crowd of B2UTY’s huddled outside MTV’s Times Square Studio when the boy band flew in (with labelmates G.Na and 4Minute) to perform for MTV K Presents United Cube Live in NYC in October 2011 suggests, they’ve certainly reached a growing fanbase in North America.
