Charli XCX is an English powerhouse not to be taken lightly. After listening to her debut, You’re the One, you’d expect a six-foot tall woman with the emotional maturity of a woman in her prime. Turns out she’s only 19. It’s that she and her producer Ariel Rechsthaid prove to provide a powerful combo.
Charli XCX, was born Charlotte Aitchison in Hertfordshire, England. Charli XCX stands for “Charli Kiss Charli Kiss.” She began performing in underground raves, where her skill first became apparent. And after she met with Rechsthaid, things began to rapidly fall into place. She released her EP You’re the One in June, and expects her album to debut in the Spring of 2013.
Charli describes her music as a blend between “pink, gold, and black.” Within a week of putting her first single, “You’re the One” on Soundcloud, she had 50K views, and her mixtape Heartbreaks and Earthquakes was downloaded 7K times. She will spend this summer opening for Coldplay and Santigold.
Her current singles are “You’re the One”, “Stay Away”, and “Nuclear Seasons”. Rechsthaid flexes his muscles in the studio to provide a solid, hefty backbone to Charli’s vocals, and combined it has the melodic texture of Depeche Mode, The Cure, or Austra with the vocal qualities of an 80s Madonna or today’s Jessie J.
