This Santiago, Chile quintet (Koala Contreras – voice, SubMarcos – piano, SebaBajo – bass, Metraca – drums, DJ Sp@cio – scratches) fuses hip hop with experimental jazz. Real jazz. Orchestral jazz. Think brass, brushes, freestyle cymbals, and swing. The band has been hard at work, dropping four albums since 2008, and some nice singles including “Influencia.”

When you’re armed with real musicians, expert flow, a poetic spirit, and some choppy electronics, the possibilities are endless. It’s not even close to a gimmick either, each track sounds like a completely different genre-busting exploration than the last.
