Thomas Weley Pentz is not your average Tupelo, Mississippi native. Having conquered the world times over as a DJ/Producer, most noted for his eclectic mashup of electronica, dubstep, reggae, ‘80s pop, Miami bass, house, baile funk, moombhaton and any other cultural sound he can get his hands on, the man we have come to know as Diplo is simply, major. Who’d a thunk it that what once started as a side gig to help Sir Pentz cover his rent back in his Batlmore days as a student and after-school mentor, would lead to his working with artists like M.I.A. The Dirty Projectors, Maluca, Bonde do Role, La Roux and a slew of others; a catalogue of amazing and highly-acclaimed mixtape collabs; a career as one-part of Major Lazer (a successful artistic venture he shares with the UK’s DJ Switch); and the launch of his Mad Decent label as owner and founder (don’t get us started…). Since April of 2012, Diplo can now add author to his long list of accomplishments thanks to his photo diary, 128 Beats Per Minute: Diplo’s Visual Guide to Music, Culture, and Everything in Between.
