FM Belfast

First appeared on IGGY: May 24, 2010

The colorful Icelandic based electro pop quintet FM Belfast are nothing but fun when they hit the stage. Known for their jaw dropping performances and new wave retro dance music, the deliver the goods on an electro pop cover of “Killing in the Name Of” and on their hot remixed single “Underwear” off their 2008 LP How to Make Friends. The band formed in 2005 and currently has five members. It’s a little hard to tell who all the members are as it seems like there is a rotating group beyond the core members Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson, Árni Vilhjálmsson and Lóa Hlín Hjálmtýsdóttir. Regardless, the group makes some awesome music. They also have their own record label, World Champion Records.

The ethereal vocals on some of their songs don’t really prepare you for the dance goodness that bursts upon you.  Dueling keyboards and quirky samples battle for your attention.  They also bring the funk when it’s called for.  You could call them an Icelandic version of The Gossip.  They have just as much sass.
