There’s a new MJ on the block. Maya Jane Coles, a 24-year-old London native, has been steadily invading the world of DJing since she was 17, when most of her peers were memorizing SAT verb charts. Though Coles tried her hand at hip-hop, drum & bass and jungle music, she found that there’s no place like house. Her titles are proof: in 2011, she was voted Producer of the Year by DJ Mag. That same year, she won the coveted Best Newcomer gong at the Ibiza DJ Awards. Coles has fearlessly added her own feminine spin of sophistication to a genre that is traditionally dominated by men. With a slew of glossy magazine covers, 13 EP releases and plans for American domination, this fearless talent plans on flying higher and higher – just peep the tattooed owl wings on her chest.
