Young hip-hop heart breaker Mo’cheddah just took an MTV Africa Music Award home to Nigeria. She won the hotly contested title of Brand New Artist. That means a whole continent is smitten with the MC/vocalist’s drop-dead good looks, spot on stage-name, and blend of modern R&B, hip-hop swagger, and addictive afro-pop hooks. A well developed sense of style is another weapon in her arsenal. The award wasn’t exactly a shocker. Mo’cheddah has only been on the scene since 2009, but there is no shortage of buzz around her. And it suits her. The lady doesn’t need to do a thing to project attitude and star power. It just kind of hangs around her like a halo. Watch her in the video for her hit “If You Want Me” and the video for follow-up single “Ko Maa Roll,” the one that really shows off the flow, the pipes, and the moves that make her worth every ounce of hype she’s getting — to say nothing of the official trophy.
With her R&B styling, she channels a Nigerian Mariah Carey, but keeps it all grounded with a little Missy Elliot flow. She can raise her eyebrow at this point and everyone should fall at her feet.
