Some argue that a great cloud has risen over the future of pop music. To those people we say this only means one thing: it’s time for Rain. Since 2002, K-Pop’s golden boy has been topping the charts across Asia and in the US with singles such as “It’s Raining,” “I’m Coming,” and “Move on.” The crooner, whose expert breaking and aggressively soulful pipes have made him a favorite of artists like Diddy and Omarion, has been prolific to say the least, putting out a full six albums over his illustrious seven year career. Don’t think, however, that Rain’s music alone accounts for his rise to fame. This South Korean heartthrob is a triple threat, starring on TV in the popular series “Sang Doo! Let’s Go To School” and “Full House,” (no, not that one) for which he won the KBS award for Best Actor in 2004. Recently Rain has been flexing an entrepreneurial muscle as well; in 2007 he founded and began serving as CEO of J. Tune Entertainment, and a year later started his own clothing line, Six to Five. As of 2009, the star can add diplomat to his list. Last month, Korea deemed the 27-year-old a “goodwill ambassador” for the nation. With all these accolades and business ventures, there’s no debating why this guy was deemed one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world by Time Magazine readers. Whether he’s selling Seoul abroad or making it in the studio, one thing’s for sure: you can’t spell “renaissance man” without the letters “RAIN.”
