Pixie-ish, doe-eyed — SoKo will sweetly charm you and then — pow! — like a well-traveled hustler, with a wink and a nod she’ll kick your a$$.

With a whispery, childish sound that’s somewhere between singing and talking, her first hit, “I’ll Kill Her,” starts off musing about a date she was supposed to go on with a sweetheart who never called her back. And then the song turns, unfolding into a revenge anthem. “You were dating that bleach-blonde girl,” she accuses, before moving on to the chorus: “I’ll kill her, I’ll kill her.” This is what we love to hear from our most adorable divas!

The world took notice of this French singer, born in Bordeaux to a Polish Jewish family. Soon after putting the track on her MySpace page, it was played by on the runway at a Stella McCartney show, got radio play around the world, achieved #1 in Denmark, and launched the darkly sweet French chanteuse on M.I.A.’s 2007 Kala World Tour. Her MySpace page snagged half a million hits. And she became one of those fairy tales spurred by the internet — with only a few songs and no management, then 21-year old Stéphanie Sokolinski had made it as a singer — something she hadn’t originally set out to be. She’s taking a break from music after moving to the States to record an album turned out to be a frustrating headache. She’s not 100% pleased with all the fuss either. But when you’re SoKo, you can’t stop people from adoring you…we’re pretty sure we’ll hear a new hit on her MySpace page soon.
