Wonder Girls (원더걸스)
Since their debut under the care of JY Park and JYP Entertainment in 2007, The Wonder Girls have known nothing but instant fame and popularity. By 2009 they were Asia’s teen sensation and at the height of their career when they suddenly packed their bags and moved to the Big Apple, determined to take on the American market. Since then, the Girls have toured with the Jonas Brothers, placed on Billboard’s Hot 100, and had a change in line-up. JYP trainee Lim joined the Wonder Girls in early 2010 after one of the original members, Sunmi, returned to Korea to further her studies. In May 2010, the Girls released their first English EP, 2 Different Tears, which included English versions of their hit songs, followed by their very own headlining North American tour. In late 2011, they starred in the Nick Cannon-produced TV movie for Teen Nick, Wonder Girls at the Apollo.
Packaged neatly in a tween-friendly image as the good girls next door, combined with their infectious melodies and fun choreography, they are South Korea’s representative girl group, releasing hit after hit with “Tell Me,” “So Hot,” and “Nobody.” Members Sun, Yubin, Yenny, Sohee, and Lim have been crowned the queens of “bokko,” which translates to “revival,” and in 2010, “2 Different Tears” proved yet again their affinity for all things retro.
