Artist of the Week: Brazilian Electro Hip Hop Swarm Sacassaia

By Halley Bondy | October 11, 2011

Sacassaia’s debut album, Sampleando Deus e o Mundo (Sampling God and the World) established the Brazilian electro hip hop group as global fusion heavy weights. Named for an aggressive species of ant, DJ/producers Geraldo Horta, Gabriel Reis (Gardenel), and Tony Roballo do their arthropod namesake proud, voraciously consuming and remixing an entire planet’s worth of music and languages. Rhymes in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and  Hebrew glide nonchalantly over worldly rhythms from dub to merengue.

This crew might not yet be as globally known as they are globally aware — but enough people have been listening — and loving what they do — for them to walk away with a victory by a wide, wide margin in our Artist of the Week race. Congrats to Sacassaia! Catch them on our homepage all week and for Q&A, click here.
