We’re not exactly sure what a theme MV is supposed to be, but Beast released one this weekend along with a track from their upcoming mini-album, Midnight Sun. Maybe it’s something between a really long teaser and a short music video? Whatever it is, it gives us a more solid view of the group’s concept.

Good heavens, these poor boys. “Midnight,” a song that laments the relationship that got away, is yet another melancholy release for Beast (cf. Shock, Soom, Fiction). Contrary to the song title, the music video gives off the feeling of early morning, and alternates between close-ups of the individual members and group shots of Beast walking the streets of New York.

We’re trying so very hard not to make a comparison, but how can we avoid the obvious resemblance to Big Bang‘s NYC filming trip for “Bad Boy” and”Blue?” From the backdrop, to the feel of the song, to the members’ wild new hairstyles… everything is awfully similar.

The full release of Midnight Sun will be on July 22.
