Bolivian Ladies Kick A$$ In Wrestling Doc Mamachas Del Ring

By toksala | September 21, 2010

Forget your average luchador.

And meet their match: merciless, bloodied-up female wrestlers out of Bolivia who refuse to be pigeonholed or exploited.

The documentary Mamachas Del Ring has gotten recognition at tons of film festivals around the globe (with more to come), and with good reason: you’ve never seen ladies in traditional Latin skirts doing anything quite like this.

The doc, made by Korean-American filmmaker Betty Park, features pretty intimidating women in Bolivia who love wrestling so much that they’re willing to beat up men on the streets, sever their management, and even cut off their own families for the sake of the spot sport. The doc includes random bits of clay-mation re-enactments, which look a lot cleaner than the actual wrestling shots.
