It’s impossible to write about chillwave – as I attempted yesterday — without referencing Neon Indian, the glo-fi, synth pop project of Mexico-born, Texas-raised 21-year-old Alan Palomo.
A gauzy, shimmery mash of cheesy pop, video-game blips, and oozy elevator music, the drowned songs seem to sparkle around Palomo’s washed out vocals — which are one part goofball joke and one part sincere nostalgia. “Should have taken acid with you,” Palomo sings, “Melt our tongues and become unglued” — and it feels like the most heartfelt love song you’ve ever heard.
He’s setting out on a tour. So check it out if you’re anywhere around.
