LA-based musician Dawen is one of our favorites, so we were thrilled that he’s the newest guest blogger for our Bands On Tour feature. Learn more about him here and read his past posts from the tour!
Last night’s show at Silk Road Cafe was crazy. The “Five Points Variety Hour” is like the East Coast equivalent of Tuesday Night Café in Los Angeles. It’s all about APA representation in the arts and providing an outlet to express our voice. It’s an incredible feeling when you and the whole audience are riding the same vibe, the same wavelength. We need more of this in our community. New York’s vibe is definitely different from LA’s. More dense, more frenetic. Still, it’s good to see such an active and vibrant community flourishing coast to coast. It feels like a movement that’s not quite aware of itself.
Alfa was great. It is easy to see why she won Kollaboration Acoustic 3 this past summer in LA. She sang with me on my song “Put Your Swords Down” and I accompanied her on her tune “Foot Out the Door.” When we first met in LA we were performing at the Blue Dahlia and she impromptu asked me to accompany her on that song un-rehearsed. It was awesome to be able to play it again. People later told us we should play on the road together, lol!
So I bought a Droid to take with me on this tour. And the battery KEEPS dying. It’s been kind of frustrating for me since I’m not very tech-savvy. Sorta wished I had learned all of the functions first before starting the tour. I went from old school flip-phone to “smart phone” in one go. It’s like going from a bicycle to a jet. Anyways, if anyone knows how to get the best use out of this thing, please let me know!
