Despite dubstep being a relatively new genre, it has its greats. On his new mix, Blow Your Head Vol. 1, the once-Philly-now-LA based Diplo has pulled together tracks from UK originators like Joker, DZ, Zomby, and a particularly bouncy number from Benga entitled “26 Basslines“.
Track selection ranges from the light and melodic stuff that brought endeared dubstep to a broader audience (for example, a remix of “Burn” Australian Idol Jessica Mauboy), as well as the chunky, grimy, synthed out fare that keeps a part of the scene esoteric today.
The mix also includes a couple of gems from Diplo himself, as well as a collaborative Major Lazer track infused with that signature dub style.
The world may have moved on to the countless variations of the cut-time beat, but Blow Your Head Vol. 1 is a sampling of the basics that made it hot.
