We’ve been getting over-excited nose bleeds over the mere existence of Mexican rapper Niña Dioz and Argentinian electro-cumbia producer El Hijo de la Cumbia. Now they have conspired, with El Hijo remixing La Niña’s super sassy track “Criminal Sound.”
This is personal. It’s even more dangerous than when Niña Dioz teamed up with Bomba Estéreo’s Li Saumet to record “La Cumbia Prohibida.”
That was almost too much for us to take, but now it’s clear that the emcee and the producer in question are trying to kill us with party music. Ah, but what a way to go.
And this is the pairing to do it. The remixer is a master at making fresh cumbia-based tracks cut with hip hop and electro. The remixee is like the lime spritzer of rhyme — reviving and quenching the parched hip hop palate. Together, they are cool like the breath of the Grim Reaper.
