Our Brazilian boy Emicida keeps blasting through milestones. Today he’s announced that American video game RockStar, who also made the hit game “GTA,” will be using his songs, including a new one, for their latest installation of the “Max Payne” game series. This time, the noir detective Max Payne sleuths the streets of São Paulo in search of a kidnapped woman. The soundtrack brings to life the pulsing megacity with several songs by the freestyle champion, including including a brand-new track, “9 Círculos.” With Sao Paulo as his song’s subject, Emicida portrays his hometown, the largest city in Latin America, as Dante’s hell — a place he’s survived through trial by fire.
Of his Portuguese-language song, Emicida says, “It flirts with the maracatu and the samba.” The flirtation boils over into full-scale music party, as the Afro-Brazilian beats fuse with his MC-slaying raps, as gamers will soon discover. The video game is out May 15 in the US and should be dropping in Brazil later in the month.
