Germany’s DJ Reboot Remixes “Un Dia” by Argentine Star Juana Molina

Juana Molina’s subtle, playful, if not odd albums have been captivating the world for more than a decade.  She started as a comic actress in Argentina in the 80s, then ditched the screen for a guitar in the 90′s so she could play shoegaze, folk, experimental ambient and quiet hints of electro.

It’s tough to say why her music is so likable. It’s not particularly pretty or genre-specific. It’s not particularly new or old-fashioned. But it’s smart, nuanced, versatile and ripe for sampling.

Her track “Un Dia,” which was also the name of her latest album, sounds like an ambient, distant folk chant with compressed vocals, guitar, percussion and a some sax.

DJ Reboot, an emerging minimalist techno DJ transformed “Un Dia” into a chill dance piece, exploiting Molina’s use of the English words “One Day” repeatedly, which work in synch with his heavy bassline.

Reboot has been touring Europe with simple, subtle tracks that sound like he’s more interested in keeping the party on its feet than showing off his crazy DJ skills.
