Grime’s King Wiley Covers ’90s Hit “Your Woman”

Sometimes you just need a 2010 grime re-make of that 1990s’ hit “Your Woman.” Sometimes that’s just the mood you’re in. Sometimes that’s the only thing that’s gonna float your boat…

Look no further than Grime-master Wiley, who along with Emeli Sande pastes in quick spurts of rhymes over the original structure of the 1997 White Town track. Their greatest innovation here? Covering the male vocals — which sing “I guess what they say is true / I could never be a woman” — with FEMALE vocals. What was once a song about a man lusting for a girlfriend who has come out of the closet as a lesbian now has a much slipperier meaning. This is about wanting people to be what they’re not, and switching from partner to partner in the endless search.

The single is out February 21st on Relentless / Virgin Records.
