Yes, it’s that time of year again. Hanukkah: The major global holiday with only one pop song to its name.
And we all know that Adam Sandler’s “The Chanukah Song” got old in 1996.
But now, thanks to Hasidic Jewish American R&B/reggae singer Matisyahu, TWO songs are in the Hanukkah pop canon, and this time, the humor is timeless.
Matisyahu rap/sings through “Miracle,” a fun dance-pop track with the lyrics:
“Do you believe in miracles
Am I hearing you? Am I seeing you?
Eight nights eight lights and these rites keep me right
Bless me to the highest heights with your miracle…”
Okay, so the lyrics aren’t funny. But wait until you see the video, which travels into Matisyahu’s bizarre subconscious after a Santa impersonator knocks him out in a skating rink.
Apparently, there are hilarious, hedonistic Romans in his brain.
This is Matisyahu’s first release since “One Day,” which became a World Cup 2010 classic.
