Helado Negro Releases New Album and Single, Sings in English

By Marlon Bishop | February 1, 2013

Ecuadorian-Floridian Roberto Lange, aka Helado Negro (or “Black Ice Cream”) to those in the know, has returned with a third studio album full of smart, synth-laden alt-pop. Invisible Life comes out on March 5 on Asthmatic Kitty Records and unlike previous Helado Negro releases, this one will feature several songs in English as well as Spanish – perhaps in a bid to move beyond the somewhat limited South American hipster music market, maybe just because that’s how he wants to express himself, man.

Our first taste of Helado Negro en inglés comes with the album’s first single, “Dance Ghost,” which has been released on Soundcloud in advance of the full album. It’s an ethereal, faraway and far-out dance jam with one hell of a hook: There’s no one home/ just the ghosts who dance alone. Now try and tell me everything doesn’t feel that way, sometimes.
