Dance to the sound of canaries.
Hailing from the Canary Islands, Spain, Ilya Santana has got disco oozing out of his ears. When disco started coming back in the mid-2000s, Santana dropped a couple of promising 12″ records that caught buzz all over.
Five years later, he’s released a dozen such records demonstrating an ever tighter grasp on the sounds that compose the sweetest disco kitsch.
Ilya Santana just put out another one to add to the list. Transborder EP has got it all, from the soft attack snare drum to the epic strings. The release also features a couple of remixes by Minilogue and Letherette.
My favorite thing about Ilya Santana is that in this photo, he’s mixing on a laptop and using a turntable as a mousepad. Take that, recently discontinued classic record player! And they said Technics would never become obsolete.
