On Monday, the Supreme Court weighed in on Arizona’s now-infamous immigration law, SB1070, often nick-named the “show me your papers” law because it allows police question the immigration status of anyone they suspect to be undocumented. Some part the law was struck down, but this central part was upheld, leading to outcry from the ACLU and other civil rights groups, who say the law will lead to racial profiling.
Today, activist rock band Outernational responds with a video for the song “We Are All Illegals,” the title-track off their recent concept record about the US-Mexico border. Back in May, we profiled Outernational as they toured their message about the suffering caused by US immigration policy across the borderlands. Read that article here.
The new video features performances from former Rage Against the Machine guitarist and rebel rock hero Tom Morello, as well as a verse by Residente from the alt-rap/reggaeton group Calle 13, who advocate frequently for political issues affecting Latinos and support independence for Puerto Rico. The video also uses crowd-sourced material from over 100 fans around the world who submitted their footage and photos. Check it out below.
