Okay, we just had to make sure you heard this. João Brasil is a Brazilian master of mashing things up and — it has to be said — cheesing things up. But he does it in such a smooth and shameless way that you just have to give him all the props you have on hand.
First, he caused pulses to race all over the Web with his racy first single “L.O.V.E. Banana,” featuring Brazilian indie royalty Lovefoxxx of CSS. Now, it’s not even a month later and he’s hit us with another one,“Tropical Bomb,” which employs the unforgettable theme from the 1989 global hit “Lambada.” Brilliant/hilarious lyrics glaze this delicious ham.
Funny story behind the track. Mr. Brasil wrote the song last winter for his debut EP. Then, proving that great minds think alike, Jennifer Lopez came out with her Lambada-loving “On the Floor,” and he decided to just give this one out for free, since she kinda stole his thunder there. It’s all just one chapter the fraught history of this hook.
Personally, we prefer his cheesy riff on the famous theme to Lopez’s decidedly less self-aware cheese fest. We promise you’ll get way more mileage out of the snare and synth on “Tropical Bomb.”
Drop it.
