Justin Timberlake: New Image, New Landscape

Justin Timberlake: New Image, New Landscape

By Halley Bondy | January 24, 2013

Justin Timberlake’s new track “Suit & Tie” — and his classy suit getup — has whet our appetite for his new album The 20/20 Experience. It’s been too long since FutureSex/LoveSounds, yet that funky gooey middle in “Suit & Tie” proves the timeless pop crooner never really left.

Though, a lot has happened since Justin went away from music in 2006 to pursue acting. Madmen introduced a new appreciation for classic fashion. Artists like Jessie Ware and The Weeknd made it okay to hybridize genres without totally overhauling their image. And of course, Lana del Rey happened.

Basically, things have changed. Gone are the days when music industry rules were so rigid, that Justin became “urban” out of nowhere to excuse his post-NSYNC effort Justified, and that  ”D*ck in a Box” represented something totally out of character for a pop star. Now, he can sing pop music with “urban” elements (does anyone use that word anymore?), act in whatever romcom he feels like, and wear a suit. And tie. And we’re really, really looking forward to it.

We can’t wait to meet Justin in the new world on March 19, when The 20/20 Experience hits shelves. If you haven’t already, watch his lyric video for “Suit & Tie” and see if you agree.
