When Amy Winehouse’s succumbed to alcohol poisoning a year ago today it left a painful hole in the world’s playlist. At the time of her death at the age of 27 we turned to other artists expressing their grief on Twitter and the many artists who remixed her songs as a way to remember her here at MTV Iggy.
Her father Mitch Winehouse is still coping with his grief by connecting with her fans and sharing as many memories of her as he can. His book Amy, My Daughter, deals emotionally with her life. His proceeds from the book go directly to The Amy Winehouse Foundation, created to provide support for young people, “especially those who are in need by reason of ill health, disability, ﬁnancial disadvantage or addiction,” according to the foundation website.
Those wishing to contribute to the foundation can do so directly but part of the proceeds from the sale of her posthumously released album Lioness, and from her line of clothes for Fred Perry will also go to the foundation. Ebay has also made it charity of the week between July 23 – 29.
The singer’s powerful and unique voice will not be forgotten anytime soon. We especially like to remember the Grammy winner through the classic songs she chose to cover. Her versions of songs like “Body and Soul” and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” showcased the special gift for song interpretation she had.
