Russia is Prude? But What About Byanka?!

Russia is Prude? But What About Byanka?!

Western newspapers just love to label entire countries based on a trend or two. When they discovered that one person in Japan was developing a vending machine camouflage outfit to avoid crime, the writer saw it as a license to say all of Japan is “sensitive” and “unusual.” And we’ve written about an annual dig at poor Chinese-to-English translations.

In the most widely read paper in the USA yesterday, writer Michael Schwirtz visited a sex expo in Russia, which apparently was too vanilla for him. He called the entire country of Russia prude because there’s not enough interest in sex toys and Western-style sex talk there. He even implies that these things could help solve the sky-high Russian divorce rates and stop its population drop.

Oh, come on!

Is the dildo model really the answer to the country’s problems? And since when is the US such a bastion of enlightenment? You can’t even sell sex toys in Alabama!

Anyway, Russia has nothing to prove. They have Byanka.

The hot, erm, enlightened R&B chanteuse came on the scene a few years ago and made quite the impression on Russia with her soulful voice, her combination of Russian folk and hip hop, but mostly her booty.

Do you think Russia is prude when you watch Byanka’s “Byli Tancy” (rough translation: “There was Dancing”)?
