A new U.S. foundation hopes to provide education to girls in struggling countries…and they’re rocking at it!
She’s the First, launched by an American web editor less than a year ago, encourages people to pay for a girl’s education in Africa, Latin America or Asia. Sponsors can also communicate with the girls easily, because a program is teaching them to use the web.
What makes She’s the First different is that it’s run by young, media saavy music lovers. They have a huge Facebook and Twitter presence and their viral video (below) features U.S. R&B star JoJo.
“She’s the First is a movement,” founder Tammy Tibbetts told Seventeen. “Our Facebook fans are just as important as our founders.”
Tonight, they’re hosting an all-girls rock concert at 7 p.m. in New York City. The Girls Who Rock concert will feature Dominican pop singer Kat DeLuna, Iggy fave Lenka from Australia, and New York-based Indian turntablist, DJ Kalkutta. For more info on the event, click here.
Even if you’re not in New York, don’t fret! You can hear it live on: livestream.com/girlswhorockny
