Shonen Knife, Boris Featured On Loveless Tribute Compilation

Great News For Your Shoes

By Beverly Bryan | November 9, 2012

These are tense times for My Bloody Valentine fans. Kevin Shields, leader of the broken up/not that broken up Irish shoegaze legends, insists that the band is only weeks away from releasing their first album in 21 years. But Shields has been saying things like this for a long time. You want to believe, but you’re naturally afraid of getting hurt again.

Whatever happens, fans, especially those in Japan, still have genuine cause for anticipation. Not only is My Bloody Valentine headlining the Tokyo Rocks festival in May, but Japan’s High Fader records got some of the finest Japanese rock bands to cover songs from Loveless, MBV’s seminal 1991 album. The uncomfortably named, er, Yellow Loveless, is out in January and will feature Boris covering “Sometimes” and Shonen Knife covering “When You Sleep.” Yes, this song. It’s going to be wonderful.
