Unless you’ve been living in a cave or, you know, just don’t spend an inordinate amount of time on the internet, you’ve probably watched a googleplex of so-called “Harlem Shake” videos by now. If you haven’t, I suggest you do some research and come back here.
Aside from being the basis for one of the weirdest viral video phenoms maybe ever, “Harlem Shake” is the catchy trap-rave tune by Mad Decent fam member Baauer, and as of today, it’s the beat for a new Azaelia Banks track. Via a tweet, Azealia claims she had already made a version of it months ago and was waiting to clear the track before releasing it on her album.
Yeah… sure, you did. So ahead of the curve, Azealia. But in all fairness, it’s probably true. It makes a lot of sense – Azealia is super clued-in to the electronic/rave/global bass world that Bauuer and trap-rave irculates in, and she is also a Harlem native. So we believe her. Plus, this is certifiably dope.
But we have to hope she learned her lesson after the Munchi fiasco and checked with Baauer before putting this remix out.
UDPATE: Looks like Azealia took down the version on Soundcloud. But, thanks to the internet, it now exists here on YouTube.
