The Aikiu’s “The Red Kiss” Is the 80s-est Ever

France’s The Aikiu knows how to deliver the candy.

They proved it last year with “Just Can’t Sleep,” a Scissor Scissors-y disco delight. This time, they’re advancing to the days when ’80s melodramatic pop took itself very, very, very, very seriously.

“The Red Kiss,” the title track of the Parisian band’s new EP, is about as 80s as you can get. Frontman Alex Aikiu takes on the tortured OMD ballad vocals over the persistent, percussive synth.

The 80s drama doesn’t stop there. The video takes place on an old timey stage setup. There’s a woman gazing longingly at Alex, which is all very Human League, until it gets very Squirrel Nut Zippers satanic-y at 3:05.
