The Black Keys’ Viral Video for “Next Girl”: Hot Chicks in a Pool + A Dinosaur

By toksala | April 30, 2010

Nearly naked chicks out by a pool. Catfights in bikinis. Threesomes. Plus, a dinosaur puppet. The perfect recipe for a viral video? Oh, toss in one more: It’s all edged in irony by a ticker, at the bottom of the screen, denying that the band ever wanted to be a part of this project: “This is an attempt by their record label to attract attention to the band using a ridiculous dinosaur puppet. The label thinks it is hilarious. The Black Keys hate this video and don’t find it funny at all.”

If you’ve ever wanted to see hot women tussle and not feel guilty about it, cuz you’re watching a viral video — enjoy. This is as much about vim as it is about vengeance; every view kills a little part of those big, bad record labels… It’s Today’s Candy, guilt free, from our favorite American blues rock two-piece.

For some reason, we wrote the full transcript of what appears on the ticker and felt we might as well include it. We are dorks:

“This is not the offical video for The Black Keys’ “Next Girl.” This is an attempt by their record label to attract attention to the band using a ridiculous dinosaur puppet. The label thinks it is hilarious. The Black Keys hate this video and don’t find it funny at all. The Black Keys feel the dinosaur puppet lip syncing to their song is demeaning to the sound of their new record. They disavow any responsibility for it and wish you would stop watching. The Black Keys management told them… ‘This could become a rad viral hit.’ To which the black Keys responded, ‘WTF are you talking about Did you really just say that to us?’”

(Ooh, taking down OK GO?!) It continues:

“Remember, this is an ad. The Black Keys’ new album Brothers will be available in fine record stores and online locations May 18. Their record label says, ‘Be Sure to buy it.’”
