Last week NYC was living for, you guessed it, The Weeknd. The Canadian crooner launched his new tour with a sold-out show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 25, and followed it up over the weekend with a performance to another capacity crowd at the Bowery Ballroom.
Decked out in a subtle black t-shirt and green army jacket — fitting attire for the artist whose music always seems to take center stage — the Toronto-based singer brought his sultry vibrato and R&B-flavored beats to hordes of ravenous fans on the Bowery. The set featured hits from his trio of mixtapes — House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence — and a quick YouTube search will show that his voice was only eclipsed by the crowd singing (screaming…) along to every word.
The Weeknd started the night with his hit “High For This,” a track that made it onto our highly toasted 4/20 Music Guide, and in typical fashion, all in attendance were buzzed with excitement. Take a listen to the ambient R&B track and curse the day you didn’t buy tickets to see this show.
