We all love Joy Division and New Order. Some of you weirdos even like Happy Mondays. But Factory Records, the Manchester label that launched those groups, goes way deeper than that, and now with two re-release comps on their hands, no one is working harder to preserve the memory of that storied catalog than Strut Records. The second in the series Fac. Dance 02 includes Berlin-based Shark Vegas as one of the groups getting a second 15 minutes.
The new wave band’s most high-profile moments were a 1984 tour opening for New Order and their Factory Records single “You Hurt Me.” Though their impact in Germany and the UK was limited they had a cult following in gay dance clubs in the US, which is reason enough to share this rare live footage of the group performing their hit. Dig also “Pretenders of Love,” reissued on the two-disc Fac. Dance. If it’s your thing, 02 drops Sept. 18.
