In other non-related British news, Roots Manuva is back, and he’s penning an opera, a comic book and an autobiography as to how one Stockwell-bred lad came into his own as a dub champion. And of course there is a new album in the works by the Big Dada rapper, but his Banana Skank EP, which drops January 21, 2013, will just have to hold you down in the meantime.
Trust, Manuva is a pro. Having been on the scene since the mid ’90s, surviving the ever-changing dub scene of London has probably been no easy feat for the man born Rodney Smith. But still we find that all praises are due to the high and mighty “duppy” writer who continues to craft colossal tunes by the boatload.
Just let the spirit of one of our faves speak for itself. Watch Roots Manuva’s 2001 classic jam, “Witness (1 Hope),” and you’ll see exactly why he’s dubbed a true pioneer.
