USA To Make Pointless Remake of Awesome Swedish Vampire Flick Let The Right One In

Face it, USA, you didn’t make the amazing, artsy vampire flick Let the Right One In. Sweden did. It was a gorgeous tour-de-force and a huge success both commercially and critically, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Oh wait, I guess you can butcher the quiet indie film just two years later with a hard rock soundtrack, shorten the title to Let Me In, move the setting to New Mexico, re-release the same exact movie in English and then call it your own.

Yes, you heard me. Hollywood is releasing its own version of Let the Right One In called Let Me In, which is slated for release in October. Its trailer is below.

Of course, there will be more glitz in this higher-budget version. You know, more pop-out-at-you horror scenes, more effects, more of a fast, commercial pace, and an overall more expensive look.

I’m furious about this remake. It’s taking one of Iggy’s favorite vampire movies of all time, which was also based on a Swedish novel, and filing it away with the latest pop vampire craze.

The original movie was a sweet indie flick about a young boy named Oskar who lives in a stark, snow-covered housing project in Sweden. He’s mercilessly picked on in school and falls in love with an eternally 12-year-old vampire girl, who becomes his brutal, baggage-laden protector. It was a charming, well-executed, delicate mix of camp, horror and coming-of-age.

Will money and Hollywood destroy it?

Check out the trailer here and see for yourself!
