Don’t try telling Ximena Sariñana that you’re her biggest fan. You might know all the words to every song on her debut album Mediocre, but, unless you are Adriana R. Medina of Mexicali, Baja California, you are an imposter.
The Mexican alt-pop sweetheart (and MTV Iggy Best New Band nominee) uses Facebook application Fanrank to find out who her most true superfans are. Her admirers prove their love by posting on Facebook and retweeting about her. They earn points when other people “like” and retweet their posts across various social networks. It helps to have a lot of online friends if you want to get on top, but it also takes hard work and dedication. Don’t hate the player, people.
Oh, and since Sariñana’s second and third biggest fans are Alejandro Morquecho and one Miguel Angel, don’t even try saying you are one of her biggest fans — unless you are one of the over 1,000 names on her Fanrank page. A lot of her high ranking supporters are from Mexico, but there are folks on the leader board hailing from São Paulo, Brazil to New York, New York.
You can also prove your fandom for Ximena Sariñana by voting for her in our Best New Band competition.
