There’s been a whole lot of talk about the ascension of African hip-hop and pop music following the news last year of Kanye signing Nigerian star D’banj to his G.O.O.D music label (as well as Ghana’s Sarkodie signing to Akon’s Konvict label, and plenty of other examples). But, we had to remain skeptical – until now. That’s because there’s a new Spanish-language cover of Dbanj’s hit “Oliver Twist” by the king of the Illuminati, perennial hit-maker Pitbull.
Pitbull’s version, reborn under the title “La Confesion,” puts the spotlight on Dominican rapper Sensato. Check it out below:
Whatever you think about the track, there’s something very futuristic and awesome about a West African-Latin Caribbean club music collaboration criss-crossing the Atlantic via the internet. What’s next, some kind of azonto-bachata mashup?
