The 20th Annual Golden Melody Awards were held in Taipei this past Saturday. Known as the "Chinese Grammys," it's the most important night of the year for C-pop artists. A big winner this year was Jay Chou (<a href=http://blog.mtviggy.com/2009/06/28/jay-chou-wins-big-at-2009-golden-melody-awards/>see YeinJee's blog post</a>), although he did not attend the award show due to a previous commercial engagement. Some say that he snubbed the award show after failing to win a single award in 2008, although he received many nominations. Ironically, this year, he won best male singer, best song and best music video while absent. Another big winner was Eason Chen.

Meet Jennifer Chung, aka The YouTube Singing Sensation, aka The Nicest Girl in the World (TM). We caught up with the talented singer in her college dorm room (so down to earth! so nice!) and talked to her about posting videos on YouTube, her thoughts on internet celebrity, and writing her own material. Oh yeah, did we forget to mention that she's currently unsigned? It's clearly just a matter of time. She already a star, and according to Iggy staffer Woods, she's "TCP." (That would be "Totes Cutesy Poots" to the rest of us.)

At long last, the moment has come for TEKKEN (鉄拳) fans worldwide. The next, much-anticipated installment in one of the longest-running fighting game franchises will be arriving on home consoles this fall. The series will celebrate its 15th year this winter, its last real installment was released five years ago, and it’s been nearly two years since Namco Bandai released Tekken 6 in the arcades. Needless to say, it’s long overdue to make its debut on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (a version of the fighter will even be released for the handheld crowd on the PSP).

Map the Soul Tour

Did you catch the Map the Soul Tour at one of its stops in the US or elsewhere in the world? If you didn't, don't worry! When the Tour stopped in New York City, we got them to do a private performance just for us and a few dozen lucky fans -- and now, thanks to the magic of online video, you too can check out the MTV Iggy performances from Epik High, Far East Movement, MYK, Kero One and DumbFounDead. We also got behind-the-scenes photos and got some face-to-face camera time with Epik High and the others!

Nothing can stop the Far East Movement. Despite sleep deprivation, jetlag, a hangovers, and one really high fever (Kev Nish was really hurting), FEM somehow brought a blast of energy to this electrifying performance of “the electro ‘Party Dont Stop ‘Til They Call the Cops.” You won't find the song on their latest album (Animal), any previous albums, or even as a single or a download. Why? Because they ONLY do this one live, at shows. So we hope you rock, rock, rock, rock out to this song.

Although Epik High has been highly successful in Korea (winning tons of music awards as fan favorites AND critics' darlings), they still consider themselves the underdog, or the “indie film,” of music in Korea. For this performance, Epik High opens with “Cipher,” featuring Beatboxer DG, and slides into “Top Gun” found on the Map the Soul World Wide version album. You missed Tablo while they were on tour? Iggy Special > The Art of Breaking

Kids all over the globe are still doing it -- battling with their sickest moves and fresh freezes, trying to show who's got the nicest skills. B-boying is still as popular as ever, with professional crews representing all nations of the world. Take an in-depth look at the global phenomenon: The Art of Breaking.

Of the four hip-hop elements, b-
boying (or the broader "hip-hop
dancing") is more prominent than
ever, with professional crews
representing almost all nations of
the world. Thanks to a select handful
that have crossed into the
mainstream consciousness, like the
Jabberwockeez, Quest Crew, Super
Cr3w and others, breaking is more
popular than ever.

Quest Crew super-fan Allison Tseng contacted us with a proposition: the dance crew was in town and she really wanted to interview them. We weren’t sure how it would turn out, but we sent her off with note cards full of questions and strict instructions to behave herself and not, like, lick them. Maybe too strict... the poor girl got nervous. She still did a great job getting more than we thought we’d ever know about Quest Crew, and also sneaking in several hugs while she was at it. Take it away, Allison...

We heard the mysteriously masked dance crew known as the Jabbawockeez were in town, doing the press circuit to promote their tour with the old-school boy band, New Kids on the Block. Our Segment Producer Woods invited the Jabbas into our studio for a <a href-“http://www.mtviggy.com/global/quicky-jabbawockeez-questions “>Quicky</a> and did his best to get them dancing, but alas, they were conserving their energies for the big shows they had coming up. They answered his questions on camera, but he had more. So here, from the cutting room floor, we present the rest...

If you're any kind of fan of hip-hop or breaking, you most likely caught the hit docu "Planet B-Boy" last year. For some people, it was a wake-up call: breaking didn't die in the 80s -- it had gone underground and it had gone overseas. "Planet B-Boy" followed five of the best dance crews from around the world as they performed for fans and battled for respect and the ultimate goal of winning Battle of the Year, an annual event held in Germany. We caught up with executive producer Chris Kim and director Benson Lee for a chat -- Quicky-style. <a href=/global/special-art-of-breaking>Check out the full MTV Iggy Special on b-boying: The Art of Breaking.</a>

How much do we love breaking? Here are 30 ways, with the songs that play in our heads as we watch each dancer showing off the looks and moves that span almost 40 years. From Bolivia to Bhutan, the halls of the Vatican to the streets of Vietnam...what the b-boys of the South Bronx started is everywhere now. Check out these pikes, headstands, butterfly kicks and high-style freezes. The fashions may change, but the freshness never fades.<br />

Change:Kashmir

A verdant valley nestled within the towering Himalayan mountain ranges, Kashmir's great natural beauty stunned visitors who once called it "paradise on earth." For over 60 years, however, a violent struggle has raged between Pakistan and India for ownership of the territory. Meanwhile, Kashmiris are disappearing, dying, and crying out for a voice. This is our world. Let's change it.
Jump into the discussion here.

''What New York should be like should be decided by New Yorkers, not by someone in Alaska. I would apply the same to Kashmir," says Basharat Peer, a man exceptionally able to talk about Kashmiris desires for themselves. From Peer's perspective, Kashmiris desire a free nation, but must juggle the geo-political reality of being caught between Pakistan and India. Here he discusses his vision of an autonomous region with minimal control by either neighboring country, a region where free movement across borders would be possible...a simple hope for the future that seems quite far away. Basharat Peer is a Kashmiri Muslim and the author of Curfewed Night, a coming-of-age memoir set against the turbulent Kashmiri conflict.

Description: In this powerful segment, Dr. Angana Chatterji speaks of the atrocities she's witnessed in Kashmir, including, ''graves where unmarked, unnamed people lie buried... Ordinary Kashmiris, killed in fake encounters'' and schoolgirls, ''frisked by military forces.'' The presence of over 500,000 Indian soldiers cannot be explained by ''about 700 local militants, which is not a lot.'' Therefore, ''can there be truth without a commitment to unmasking things that are going to be difficult for the state to hear? Without that truth... without justice can there be reconciliation? Can there be peace without justice? These are questions we need to ask ourselves.''<br>Dr. Angana Chatterji is the Co-convener of a People’s Tribunal in Kashmir, author of <i>Violent Gods: Hindu Nationalism in India's Present</i>, and an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the California Institute of Integral Studies.
