9 Summer Anthems To Get You Even Sweatier

OWN SUMMER! YOU ARE ITS MASTER!

A good portion of the planet is hot as hell right now, and while you sweat, reek, chafe, and dress like an a**hole or remove your clothes entirely, it’s important to have the proper tunes. Luckily the weeks leading up to summer have begat delicious fruit in the form of pop, house, soca, beach rock, and all kinds of things that make sounds around the world. Here are some of the best summer anthems so far.

A-Trak & Dillon Francis — “Money Makin”

Here’s the blippy party song by two DJ heavyweights that got every person on the internet asking, “is he saying ‘the cash in my ham’ or ‘hand’”? What do you think he’s saying? (…and does it really matter?)

The Very Best — “We OK” feat. K’Naan

Bruno Mars has a writing credit on this single from The Very Best’s upcoming album MTMTMK, making this the sunniest pop and Afro-pop lineup ever to grace the earth.

Erphaan Alves – “In Your Eyes”

It wouldn’t be summertime without some Trinidad soca. Newcomer Erphaan Alves has been burning up the radio with this melodic soca pop track “In Your Eyes” since it dropped earlier this year. It’s a snuggling one so make sure you’ve showered.

Icona Pop — “I Love It”

Who knew the sunniest lady duo on this list would hail from Sweden? Best friends Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt dropped this aggro grrrl anthem earlier this year, creating something poppy you can throw sh*t to.

Poolside — “Slow Down”

Okay, time to relax now. You will never get out of your chair once you hear this yummy downtempo track from Los Angeles “daytime disco” duo Poolside. Fear not, there’s always the electric abs belt.

Brymo – “Ara”

“Ara” is a pure pop song blended with Fuji — a melodic pop genre from southwest Nigeria — and it was arguably the biggest track of the year in Brymo’s home country. The anthemic synth, the dance beat, the autotune, the pretty stuff, it’s all here for your summery self.

Peach Kelli Pop — “Panchito Blues II”

Peach Kelli Pop’s frontwoman hails from Ottawa but jams like she’s from Cali. This new song is candied, fuzzy, beachy, peppy, and overall the perfect short jam to hear next time you’re driving…pantless…to the coast.

Shonen Knife — “Pop Tune”

Of course there can’t be a summer anthems list without Japan legends and Kurt Cobain cohorts Shonen Knife, who — after decades — still manage to churn out beach rock song upon beach rock song about all things fun, cute, and delicious. Wasn’t sure there was anything left to discuss. But here’s their latest in owning summer and making it their bitch, “Pop Tune.”
