In April, Busy Signal dropped his album Reggae Music Again, recorded at the legendary Tuff Gong studios. True to his name, weeks later he and his team were back recording in his home base, Kingston’s Penthouse Studios. He then jetted to Europe to play a few shows. On his way back from Amsterdam, Busy Signal’s real name Reanno Gordon came up in customs as someone wanted in the US since 2002, when he was originally set to go on trial for cocaine charges, but absconded the charges. He is currently awaiting trial in the US for absconscion.
These photos, taken mostly by manager Shane Brown in May, are a behind-the-scenes look at the man and his songs, before “street things” swept him away again. The disposable camera snaps show him focused, a man who’d learned from his brushes with law enforcement and had turned to a straight recording career since 2005. Like Busy Signal’s music career, the photo portrait is unfinished, at least for the time being.
