Spain’s electro-tropical master El Guincho and his two backup band mates showed off their latest album Pop Negro to a New York City crowd this weekend.
And, as expected, the crowd soaked it all up like the bygone summer rays.
El Guincho hails from the mind and talent of former Canary Islands and now Barcelona’s Pablo Díaz-Reixa. His first album and 2008 breakout Alegranza combined diverse influences of tropicáli with the atmospheric, dreamy samples popularized by USA artist Panda Bear. Pop Negro is a little bit poppier, but no less summery and layered.
