Jamaica @ Webster Hall: France Rocks New York

October 27, 2010

Though Jamaica was dealt a dance-craving crowd at Webster Hall at CMJ Music Marathon, and though the band was forced to use a replacement bassist (Florent Lyonnet was absent), the rock trio still managed to put on an upbeat, picture-worthy show in New York.

The group, formerly known as Poney Poney, sound like a tongue-in-cheek, grungier version of their French compatriots Phoenix. They play upbeat, guitar trebled melodies and thick basslines, and though DJs from Justice and Daft Punk agreed produce the duo, you won’t find any synths here.
