Mr. Endowed, Meet America: D’Banj Makes His US Live Debut

February 24, 2012

Some call it Afrobeats, Afropop, or Afro hip hop — whatever you call it, the music of D’Banj can’t be contained by his native Nigeria.

An uncannily charismatic artist, armed with infectious vocal hooks and galvanizing African rhythms, he’s gearing up for a global takeover. The Lagos-based vocalist and harmonica player  signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label in 2011 and made his US live debut last weekend at Irving Plaza, in NYC.

MTV Iggy was there among the beautiful kokolets in the audience to witness the Koko Master’s big coming out party. With a live band and his label’s collective group Mo’Hits All Stars flanking him on stage, D’Banj gave the New York City crowd a taste of glamorous Lagos nightlife. In turn, the crowd gave him a very warm American welcome.
