What are Gustaf and Malin of Niki and the Dove like in person? Beyond their ethereal dance anthems in interviews and videos, the duo emanate a spirit-creature energy, like forest sprites who happen to be in the dance pop business. (Yeah, they’re from major Swedish cities and not the woods. But that’s their vibe.)

The eleven magic thing doesn’t necessarily jive with the energy of central Brooklyn, where MTV IGGY met up with the Swedish artists one grayish afternoon recently. Getting out of their van, they were just slightly jetlagged humans. Sidewalk introduction: normal. Walk to park: normal.

But once we crossed into the green depths of Prospect Park, the magic started happening. Malin laughed. Her giggle was so musical, like a bird doing scales. It lightened the mood on the shoot and even convinced the sun to peek out, I swear! Thus I remain unconvinced, even after shaking her hand, that Malin is a mere mortal.
